Democracy is not confined to just voting. It is the active involvement and participation of us; the citizens in governing the country at all levels, most importantly at the local level.
From Mahatma Gandhi to Madhav Gadgil of Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel, from C N Annadurai to Elango of Kuthambakkam and many others, many social reformers had emphasised the uncompromising efforts needed to strengthen the grassroots democratic system of India, which is our greatest strength.
We strongly felt the need for a social platform which could accommodate all sections of the people to participate and contribute to build strong local governance from the grassroots i.e., the panchayat governments, gram Sabha,
planning at the bottom level, ward sabha of both rural & urban local governments etc., mandated by our great constitution.
THANNATCHI is a organic evolved organisation through continuous initiatives for local governance and in particular Gramsabha in the name of Ullatchi Ungalatchi since 2016.
We are a registered society in the Tamil Nadu societies registration act.
We welcome everyone who believe in deepening our democracy to join hands with us and make reality the people centric governance at all levels starting from the local.
